This ending line has resulted in much confusion from listeners then and now, and even Motown boss Berry Gordy misheard it. Junior Walker recalled in a later interview with Nelson George:


At session’s end even Berry asked, “What are you saying at the end, man? What were you saying at the end? … Sounded like you were saying ‘Crying time.’” I said, “No, it’s Twine Time.‘” He said, “Well, it’s pretty good, it’s pretty good.” Then he called me three weeks later and said, “Man, this record is tearin’ up.”
